Memorial Day Weekend in the 2025 Chevy Colorado
I took the 2025 Chevy Colorado home for Memorial Day Weekend and put it to the test around Des Moines. It’s definitely a truck—but one that’s surprisingly easy to drive, park, and live with day-to-day. It felt capable without feeling too oversized, which made it a great fit for everything from running errands to weekend adventures.
Saturday: Farmers' Market & Smash Park
The weekend kicked off with a trip to the Des Moines Farmers' Market. My friend Cassie came with, and she immediately commented on how perfect the size of the Colorado was. It was easy to navigate downtown traffic and didn’t feel bulky. She also loved the infotainment system—especially the wireless Apple CarPlay® and how clean the touchscreen setup was.
Saturday night we took it to Smash Park with a group of four adults, and everyone fit comfortably. There was plenty of legroom, and the ride was quiet and smooth. It’s still a truck, but it didn’t handle like a big one—and that’s part of what made it so fun to drive all weekend.
Sunday: Takeout + Saylorville
Sunday evening, my boyfriend and I grabbed Chinese takeout from Asian Cuisine in Grimes and drove out to Saylorville Lake. We parked, climbed into the truck bed, and ate while the sun went down. The bed was super spacious—plenty of room for both of us and the food—and it made for a fun, low-key night.
Monday: Memorial Day Stops
On Memorial Day, we made a quick stop at Jester Park to check out the buffalo and moose, then headed to Camp Dodge to see the plane sculpture and army trucks on the hill. I snapped a photo of the Colorado in front of the plane, which felt pretty fitting for the holiday.
Later that day, we went to a cookout at my boyfriend’s parents’ house, and the truck got lots of compliments. Everyone mentioned how good it looked, and the red interior accents really stood out. It has a sporty, clean look that still feels tough.
